Been a while since I've been in here again. What can I say? Busy doing other things, and the front burner issue in the news these days—the election and, in particular, the Democratic primary—is just, well, not exactly inspiring.

So, a few small items:

Here's an article on education from Thomas Sowell. I love it. Lots of good stuff on NRO these days, at least, if you're on that side of things as I tend to be. Still I enjoy the odd article on The New Republic, but I wish they would give access to the whole web site for free.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain was a funny and quick read. It conjures images that I've certainly never entertained and worked beautifully. Fun stuff.

Efforts at personal growth continue: I'm trying to learn to let other people have their own struggles and still be compassionate about it. I'm trying to be more caring to myself and to others. I'm trying to live the three precepts: Cease doing evil, do only good, do good for others.

Meditation helps with that and with self-awareness and calming.

I'm signed up for a retreat at Great Tree Zen Temple soon. A full seven days. I'm a bit nervious about it. I've never remotely attempted anything that sustained. We'll see how it goes.
